Freemium

Freemium, on mobile phone (smarphone) games, means “free-to-play” game model, where users have a possibility to pay real money and get additional game enchancements. It’s becoming one the most successful principles for monetizing developer’s results. However, second abbrevation of “Freemium” has come into our understanding, which is “pay-to-play-normaly”, where most of the games do become praticaly impossible to play, if you don’t spend at least €4.99 for bucket of gems or chicken-wings (or whatever developer calls it’s precious virtual money).

Even in Wikipedia, it is clearly stated that money in Freemium model should be used for:

  • advanced features (not main features)
  • advanced functionality (not “core” functionality)
  • virtual goods (from the definition itself – it’s an additional value)

We believe internet should be for users, and not because of the users – and especially their wallets. We have founded several measures for such games evaluation:

  • Eligibility criteria – basicaly measures, how much are you able to play normaly without spending real money, how competetive you are, and how much value you can get.
  • Actual cost – how much do you have to invest additionaly, to have normal gameplay and be competetive among “mediorce” players.
  • Overall gameplay – while games can be expensive, but gameplay can be so attractive; this criteria tells is it worth to invest your time and money to receive personal satisfaction.

These measures will be calculated based on our biased estimations for the games we try. Our reviews:
